Why ASP

Frequently Asked Questions, Composting 101
  • Aerated Static Pile (ASP) Composting uses an electric blower to induce intermittent airflow into the compost pile, thereby eliminating the need to turn the pile.

  • With ASP Composting, we are able to maintain aerobic conditions throughout the compost pile and manage pile temperatures which, in turn:

    • Expedites the composting process
    • Eliminates pathogens, parasites, weed seeds, and fly larvae in the compost mix
    • Greatly reduces offensive odors (and neighbor complaints)
    • Reduces the footprint of the composting area
    • Reduces the operating cost by decreasing labor, fuel, and equipment time
    • Produces finished compost that can be safely used onsite or sold to landscapers
  • ASP Composting was originally developed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the mid-1970's and is now used throughout the world to process a wide variety of municipal organic waste materials.

  • O2Compost has simply adapted this technology to work with smaller volumes of organic waste materials in agricultural, institutional, and municipal settings.

  • The ASP method is ideal for composting livestock manure along with spent bedding and yard debris and/or kitchen waste that the owner/operator may want to include in the mix.

  • Since 1999, O2Compost has worked on over 1,700 ASP compost system designs throughout the USA, Canada, and 28 additional foreign countries. Over 80% of these projects have been for equestrian facilities.

I invite you to visit the Testimonials page on our website to see what our some of our past clients have to say about working with O2Compost.
