BEL Farms has approximately 28 horses on wood pellet bedding. The manure/bedding is placed on one of three bays, with aeration pipes laid directly on the concrete slab. Pile temperatures have been excellent, even through the cold winter months. When the active phase of composting is complete, the pipes are pulled out of the pile to provide easy access for compost removal. The finished compost product is sold in bulk to a local nursery.
