Fred D. and his wife learned the hard way the benefit of a solid roof structure. As you can see in the inset photo below, their first roof was constructed using a tarp supported by metal poles. Unfortunately, heavy snow and ice collapsed the tarp roof while they were away from home (and unable to remove the snow). This compost system has been in operation since approximately 2005 for three horses on wood pellet bedding. The finished compost is being used to develop a vermicompost (worm compost) operation.
