The Thacher School
Ojai, CA
The Thacher School is an academic preparatory high school that includes a horse boarding program. With 120-130 horses on site at any given time, manure management required special attention. Tom McCormick is an environmental consultant working on storm water management, composting of manure and food waste, and related sustainability issues. His research led him to recommend an O2Compost Aerated Static Pile system to resolve manure management issues for The Thacher School. Vegetable waste is also included in the compost mix and the finished compost is used on existing and new pastures. The The Thacher School students, teachers, staff and board of trustees are pleased that they are recycling a waste product that for so long has been shipped off campus.
