Liberty Bell Farm
Snohomish, WA
Sue B. constructed this "Top-Down" compost system during the summer of 2007 in partnership with the Snohomish Conservation District. The cost of construction was paid for in part with an EQIP grant (Environmental Quality Incentive Program). The back wall is constructed using concrete “Ecology” blocks and the remainder of the structure is post and beam construction. Aeration is supplied independently to each of the three compost bays to the right (with front boards). The fourth bay (to the far left) is for curing and finished product storage. Most of the compost is used on Sue’s pastures and her only complaint is that the grass grows and grows and grows.
