Army Demonstration Project
Fort Lewis, WA
In 2006, O2Compost provided consulting services to: 1) evaluate the volume and character of various organic waste streams that are produced within the Ft. Lewis compound; and 2) demonstrate the use of aerated static pile composting as a viable method of converting these waste streams into value added products for use at Ft. Lewis. The various organic by-products included horse manure from the Ft. Lewis Equestrian Center, landscaping waste, food waste, and biosolids from their wastewater treatment plan. The plywood divider that can be seen in this photo divided two different batches (i.e. recipes) of feedstock materials for comparison purposes. See Letter of Recommendation pertaining to the successful outcome of this project.
