After five years on active duty as a Combat Engineer Officer in the U.S. Army (and five more years in the National Guard), Justen G. returned home and decided to start up his own business. He envisioned a compost business that processed organic wastes responsibly and in a way that benefited his local community. O2Compost taught Justen how to compost using an aerated static pile system and, four years later, Veteran Compost employs 12 veterans and their families and is a model of sustainability. Justen's motto is "Keep it local, do it right, and produce the best compost possible."
