Composting with Solar Power

As a result of numerous inquiries, we have been experimenting with solar power as a means of providing electricity to power the blower for our aerated compost systems. We have now completed our solar test project and are excited to announce that...

It Works!

In fact, it works far better than we ever imagined.

Why would I use solar power?

Solar power is perfect for those farms that do not have electricity located near their compost facility site. It is also a clean, renewable resource that is ideal for "Green Farms" that strive to practice sustainability.

How does it work?

The photovoltaic panel continually recharges a deep cycle battery during daylight hours, even on cloudy days. The stored electricity is converted to alternating current (AC) using an inverter that is sized to accommodate the start-up power requirements for each specific blower. A single battery will provide power for 3 to 4 days without recharging, and multiple batteries will extend this time for areas with short daylight hours during the winter months.

Can I buy all of the solar components through O2Compost?

Yes. O2Compost receives dealer pricing on all of the solar equipment and we will pass these savings on to our clients as a way to develop additional operational experience.

Will O2Compost be able to provide technical support?

Absolutely. Each solar project will be managed by Mr. Steve Hauser, O2Compost's technical expert in Sacramento, California. Steven has 20 years of experience with equipment maintenance and power generation, and has been directly involved with all types of solar technologies for the past 3 years.

While O2Compost will continue to provide technical support for our composting projects, Steve will be our "go-to guy" for support with all of our solar systems. He will assist you with sizing your system, installing your solar components, and provide technical guidance through start-up and long-term operation.
